Fall Downtown Look: Houndstooth, Lace & Ruby Velvet Booties

One of my favorite things about dressing for the fall season is…houndstooth! I love a good houndstooth print, and I particularly loved this dress (which is 9 years old!) because it was mixed with sexy black lace at the top. I kept the look “fall” with burgundy velvet lace-up booties. What is more fall than burgundy and velvet?! I completed the look with my this-season smaller cateye sunglasses to keep my style downtown and edgy.

I can’t believe it’s almost holiday party season!

Piped Trench Coat

A few weeks ago I visited one of my best friends, Gracie, in London (she is also the photographer extraordinaire for these posts) before heading to Barcelona to meet my family. London is known to rain a lot and be gray, and while we had the first few weeks of spring weather, the evenings became very chilly. A trench coat is the quintessential clothing item I would recommend for London, and a closet staple. I had this one designed about 5 (gasp) years ago when I was in Vietnam. I was about to start my consulting career and wanted a sleek and sophisticated coat. I loved the silk black piping I had them sew on as a nice detail. Gracie and I went to Buckingham Palace for her first time on this day, and also out for a fancy high tea, so I wore a dressier lace up blouse (trend alert)! I paired the look with sleek ankle-zipper black leggings. There was a lot of walking, so I wore my comfy burgundy ballet flats. They are “Circus” by Sam Edelman and are so comfortable and hardy. I have owned them for years, and I love the unexpected and edgy punch from the spike details stemming from the bows.

Out & About in London!

I took a red eye from JFK to London last night and arrived this morning! After meeting one of my best friends, Gracie, at Liverpool Street Station, we headed back to her place to freshen up and then we headed out and about! Gracie lives in Spitlfield, a fun neighborhood in East London. We spent the day walking everywhere. Our itinerary included exploring the Shoreditch neighborhood– which has some amazing shopping and edgy, quaint vibes. Shoreditch feels like Brooklyn a little bit, lots of cool graffiti and interesting shops. We then walked through Borough Market, which was gorgeous and aromatic, and then we checked out the Tate. The Tate rooftop has incredible views of London. It’s been about 19 years since I have been in London, so the Shard and the Gerkin are new for me! We walked back to her place passing through the garden of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and topped off our night with a proper Indian meal at Brasserie on Brick Lane. The weather in London is cool but sunny, so I wore my new favorite black knit cape which has elegant studding, gray skinny jeans, and my absolute favorite comfy Chloe booties which are perfect for walking all day! I love how dark and edgy this look is. The entire look felt fitting for London, especially the cape! I topped off my look with gold aviators. Instant, elegant chic 🙂

Fall Uniform

This weekend I went up to Sleepy Hollow for a very spooky weekend! Highlights included staying at the castle-like Tarrytown House and exploring the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery- which came complete with a headless horseman riding around! I packed my “fall uniform”: a nautical-inspired skinny striped black and white long sleeve shirt, a new burgundy quilted vest (burgundy is my favorite color this fall), black denim, and my favorite red zipper-back riding boots. A light vest like this one is great for transitional fall weather like we have been having in New York. This outfit is classic, cozy, and comfortable! Thanks to Daniel for the pics 🙂

Happy Halloween everyone!

Fall Transition: Burgundy Pleats

Tom Naples Photography and I are at it again. We shot this look a few weeks ago on a beautiful warm fall day in the Lower East Side. Chaussures Adidas Ultra Boost Uncaged We were particularly inspired by street graffiti and the Williamsburg Bridge. Adidas Ultra Boost France This post has a few different key fashion elements: this Maje leather jacket- which is a closet staple and an investment piece which is perfect for fall, this burgundy (trend alert!) pleated maxi dress- which is a great fall transition piece, this tie-string choker (trend alert!) which I have been wearing almost every day, my trusty ear jackets and ankle strap flats. Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Pas Cher This maxi dress is perfect for summer to fall, as it’s lightweight but long, can be layered easily, and the burgundy color is my favorite fall shade. Adidas Yeezy Boost 330 Pas Cher I felt pretty rocker-chic and edgy between the leather jacket and the choker. It was Tom’s idea to head to the Williamsburg Bridge (I had never been) and it was such a blast. He has such an amazing eye! Enjoy the pics, and be sure to shop the links below.
