A ravishing red dress with ostrich feathers was only appropriate for a castle wedding at Oheka Castle on Long Island. This castle was stunning, and absolutely a dream come true as I have always wanted to visit. I truly felt like I was living in a fairytale with my friend Jeni. This dress is by French designer Paule Ka, and the feathery (ostrich feather) sleeves are removable via a snap! I am not completely into the cold shoulder trend anymore, but this one is just so whimsical. I got so many complements on this dress (the feathers!) at the wedding…at least 6 people! I completed the look with gold accessories. I also got my hair cut and styled before this wedding. I had a blast at this spectacular wedding!
Last Thursday night I attended a religious Jewish wedding of one of my closest friends, Elana. The wedding was held in Staten Island at 4pm (to not overlap with Shabbat), so I took the day off and really pampered myself. I got my hair done in the morning- trying a new split end removal technique that I was skeptical about but actually really worked! These “clamps” that kind of look like a straightening iron are pulled through your hair, and it only removes the split ends. Then I had a dusting cut at the end to even everything out. My hair stylist, Anita, also put in amazing hair extensions that I bought from The Hair Shop. The color match was perfect, and I felt glamorous the whole night. The Hair Repair Bar just opened on Bleecker Street around the corner from my apartment, so that made things extra convenient, too!
At an Orthodox wedding, I knew I had to dress conservatively. This meant no cleavage, no shoulders, nothing skin tight. I found this sophisticated Marni black dress a few weeks back and I loved the dramatic draped hemline. (It reminded me of a dress Meghan Markle might wear!) However, I did opt to pair the dress with sexy guinea feather strappy sandals by Stuart Weitzman. I completed the look with a bright red lip and gold accessories.
The wedding was super fun. I loved seeing the bride Elana, my friends from Poland, and the acrobat entertainment! Mazel Tov, Elana and Alex!
I hope this blog post publishes! I have been having a lot of issues with my blog posting and emailing my subscribers, so thank you for bearing with me! I had so much fun shooting this sophisticated all black look the other weekend when it was slightly warmer. I decided to go for bigger hair and bright blue nails (Essie “Butler Please”) to complement this all black look (how New York…). I recently swooned over the black belted vest at Zara. I paired it with Halogen black leather peep-toe booties that are SEVEN years old. I love the zipper and quilting detail on them. I felt very edgy, downtown, and vampy during this shoot! Thanks Nicky for taking these pics!!
I have always been a polka dot lover. When one of my best friend’s, Helene, got married in Normandy last weekend, and the rehearsal dinner and wedding were at a French countryside estate with a theme of “garden festive”, I had the perfect excuse to wear my favorite new dress! I love that this dress is sleeveless with an elegant high-neckline and sash. I specifically knotted the sash instead of tying it in a bow, because I liked that this was a little more sophisticated. I also was drawn to this dress because of the size of the polka dots. I love that they are bigger and not small dots. I knew that the rehearsal dinner would be outside, so I packed my trusty block heel sandals, easy and practical for walking on gravel and in the yard. This black and white dress called for minimal jewelry, but a dash of color, so I wore a red lip. Is there anything more summery than polka dots on a warm summer night?
This dress can also be worn to the office with a black blazer (to take a page out of Kate Middleton’s past fashion looks!)
This was the start of a fairytale wedding weekend! More to come.
I’m really excited to share the first part of a series of holiday party looks. I absolutely love getting dressed up for the season’s holiday parties, it’s a positive for dealing with frigid temperatures! I usually opt for lace and sparkles (there may be some of that later!) but for this past Saturday night’s parties it was too cold to wear the dress I had originally picked out. I recently ordered this elegant black ostrich feather trim top. I love it! I paired it with black classic slim pants and one of my favorite trends of this season: velvet shoes! I picked these ones up at a Tamara Mellon sample sale. I was originally disappointed that the blue and fuschia colors were sold out. However, the gold is so rich and warm. I love playing with details and textures- the feathers and velvet complement each other. I topped everything off with a bright red lip. This look is a great alternative to the standard cocktail dress, and would also be appropriate for office holiday parties. Feminine, chic, sophisticated, and elegant!
You can never have enough LBDs! This dress is one of my absolute favorites. I love how simple and sophisticated it is…plus I will wear pretty much anything with ostrich feathers! The high collar is elegant, and nicely complements the deeper dip in the V-neck back. I paired this dress with one of my favorite pairs of Brian Atwood glittery heels, complete with peep-toes and ankle straps. I wore this dress to an engagement party, and as with most LBDs, they are classic closet staples that are very versatile. They speak strongly without being loud. Ladies at the engagement party, and during our shoot, complemented the heels. All photography was taken at the Highline by my talented friend Tom! Check out his work and book him at Tom Naples Photography. I also had an Agave Smoothing treatment and blowout from the Damian West Salon in the West Village. It was the first time I had this treatment and the results were great. I’ve linked everything at the bottom of this post!
This weekend was the engagement party of two of my close friends, Katherine and Nick! They had an amazing rooftop party in Jersey City. I knew that I wanted to wear a Little Black Dress (LBD), as it’s always a safe classic. I picked this lace, one-shouldered one up a few months ago at Intermix- possibly my favorite shop. I paired it with a fun pair of ostrich feather Kate Spade sandals, as the bride and I always loved Kate Spade in college. I like the shade of blue, it really pops. Plus, these shoes were a conversation starter all night- a great way to make new friends. I kept my jewelry simple with this trusty pair of ear jackets. I styled my hair in a side swept part- I lightened the color today, if it looks lighter.
In honor of Earth Day, today’s post is all about one way we can reduce our carbon footprint. Luckily for me, my favorite consignment store, Second Time Around, has locations throughout Manhattan where I find my favorite designers at a discount from the retail cost. I have shopped and consigned at many of New York’s STAs, in addition to locations in Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago. When I shop at Second Time Around I am supporting the environmentally-friendly concept of reusing clothing, it’s less expensive than designer retail, and personally I think it is super fun to sort through the racks. No two treasures are the same!
Shopping aside, Second Time Around is a also a fantastic place to consign your gently used (and loved) designer duds. I have been consigning clothing and accessories at Second Time Around for years. You simply can’t keep getting new things without exchanging some old ones. Also, my NYC closet cannot only accommodate new purchases! When I consign, it is like a trade. First I clean out my closet, usually during transition seasons. Then I head over to STA with the items that have served their due time with me. I either get cash or a store credit for the items I consign (which goes FAST if I hang in the store for too long!) I love sorting through the neatly sorted racks of amazing designer-everything. Without fail, I always find an “I can’t live without it” piece.
The images below are a few of my favorite items that I have purchased at Second Time Around boutiques throughout the country. I especially love the periwinkle Jill Stuart dress and the Kate Spade ostrich feather peep-toe heels.
Check out Second Time Around’s website, and make sure that the next time you are thinking of going shopping, you consider shopping second hand.
All selected pieces in this post are one-of-a-kind from Second Time Around
Nothing says glamour the way feathers do. Feathers are fun, fearless and fabulous! I think that a solid feather dress, skirt or blouse can really spice up your wardrobe. I know that I am in the market for a new feather piece to dress up my weekend look! I have my eye on several ostrich feather pieces below. I can’t quite decide if I prefer investing in a black or creme piece!
All of these options below would look amazing with a pair of sky high strappy sandals.
