Spring Wedding Guest Attire: Polka Dot Dress and Purple Bow Sandals

Exactly one week ago I was wearing this silk off-the-shoulder (trend alert!) blue and white polka dot DVF “Camila” dress and dancing at my best friend Gracie’s wedding in Harrisburg, PA! I am guilty of owning this DVF dress in two colors: blue and white polka dots and fuchsia! I just love the waterfall hem on this dress, it moves so beautifully when you walk. I also love mixing unexpected colors, so I paired the dress with purple satin bow heels. They have a little rhinestone glittery clasp on the side. I accessorized the dress with a sleek headband to accentuate off my collarbones, and a red lip to glam up the look!

I can’t believe that Gracie is married!

Holiday Edit: Red Lace Pants & Velvet Hair Bow

Tis the season…for red lace pants! The lace trend continues for me this holiday season, this time with festive cherry red lace pants! I love a beautiful lace pant or trouser, they can be so sophisticated and elegant. This whole look (minus the shoes!) is from J. Crew. I went into the store to buy classic black lace pants over Black Friday weekend, and I was sold on the red, too! I paired these statement pants with a simple black top, my classic Christian Louboutin “Decolette” heels (I love that the red sole subtly picks up the red in the pants), and a black velvet hair tie to keep the look extra festive! I love velvet for the holiday season, and mixing different textures like velvet and lace. Kate Middleton recently has been seen out with this velvet bow, so I felt very polished!

These photos were taken outside of one of my favorite restaurants on my street- Palma!

Cherry Red Holiday Coat

I love the color red (such a strong color!) and I love a beautiful coat. So, when I laid my eyes on this gorgeous cherry red (“lollipop red”) Kate Spade coat last year, I had to have it. A beautiful classic coat is a closet staple. This coat feels so luxurious when I wear it. It is lined beautifully, and my favorite part is the big fun bow which snaps on at the front. I kind of feel like a big walking present! Coco Chanel would have approved of this coat. If you look closely, I also love the big beautiful buttons on this coat. I paired the look with little emerald studs, and a skinny black headband. Any time I wear a headband I instantly feel more girly. This whole look reminds me of something Blair Waldorf would wear!

Of course, I had to wear my trusty Christian Louboutin’s so that the red sole of the shoe would pop with the red coat!

While I was wearing this coat I was stopped by a former stylist walking his dog (who said “nice pins”), an elderly woman also walking her dog who adored the coat, and the man who lives in the brownstone behind me! Later in the day I wore it to Rolf’s for eggnog, and I was also stopped by a group of middle-aged moms. This coat is such a fun and whimsical statement in itself, and I plan to wear and enjoy it for years to come!

Fall Transition Look: Quilted Leather Skirt (Part 2)

The second part of this quilted faux leather skirt look is live! This time I made it more “school girl” by pairing it with a silk DVF blouse with a big black detachable pussy bow (trend alert!) and ankle length black lace up booties. I love a dramatic black and white look! I went with a low sleek ponytail, a dark berry lip by Stila, and dark nail polish (“Wicked” by Essie). It felt like a very fall shoot, in a few of my favorite West Village spots! I love looking at all of the West Village homes that have been decorated for Halloween.

Another Halloween inspired post to come! It will be a fun one…

Wedding Guest Edition: Silk Yellow Ruffled Dress

This weekend I had the pleasure of being the Plus 1 wedding date for one of my best friends, Gracie! One of her best friends, Valerie, got married in a beautiful intimate wedding in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I am so honored that I got to attend! I remember meeting Val in Thailand when she visited Gracie almost 7 years ago (wow). For the wedding, I decided to wear one of my favorite summery colors: yellow! I love wearing yellow because it is so cheerful and warm. This is a silk BGBC dress that has delicate pleated ruffle layers. I love pretty much anything that is feminine and girly, so naturally I was drawn to this simple dress.

The most fun part of the outfit for me, however, were the party shoes! You can just call me Carrie Bradshaw. These ones are beige satin with a bejeweled crystal heel by Nicholas Kirkwood. Changing the shoe pairing with this dress can transform the formality of it. Pairing it with a leather jacket and booties could transition the dress into fall- and dress the whole look down.

I hope that the beautiful bride Val and her husband Will are having a blast in Portugal now!

France Part 1, Provence: One-Shoulder Bow Detailed Striped Cotton Dress

Last Sunday I returned from an incredible nearly 2 week vacation in France! I met one of my best friends, Gwen, in Aix-en-Provence, and we road-tripped through the south. She was the photographer for all of these pics (thanks Gwen!) When I saw this one-shoulder swingy cotton dress, it screamed “Provence” to me! I love the striped pattern and the subtle bow detail on the shoulder. I am very into tea length dresses (trend alert!) this season. I completed the look with my favorite lace up espadrilles (they are 12 years old, from Banana Republic!), a red lip, dainty gold rings, and cat-eye sunglasses.

Aix-en-Provence was so charming, and one of my favorite places we visited. The lavendar fields also had me feeling like I was in The Sound of Music!

Belmont Stakes: Black & White Polka Dots

Last Saturday I attended the Belmont Stakes with my good friend Jeni. There was quite the spectrum of fashion at the racetrack- from belly shirts and strapless dresses to much more conservative and sophisticated looks. For the race, I wanted to channel my inner Julia Roberts circa “Pretty Woman”, so I opted for a summery polka dot dress. I love the big bold black and white dots on it. Polka dots are so classic and fun! I paired the look with a feather and netted black fascinator, and accessorized with red Valentino bow heels and a matching red lip.

I was so glad that I went with these Valentino shoes because that morning I had been on the fence about wearing a much cheaper pair of strappy black patent leather pumps (not by any notable designer). At the racetrack, Jeni and I were approached by Stuart Weitzman! This was an unbelievable dream come true for me, as I have been wearing and loved his shoes since I was a teenager. Actually, the first designer pair of shoes I purchased were black and white Stuart Weitzman spectator pumps! It felt good to be able to tell THE Stuart Weitzman this special story. He told me that he recognized my red Valentino heels (mistake to not wear Stuart Weitzman haha) and matching red lip immediately– and then he noticed that my friend Jeni was wearing Stuart Weitzman! He told me it didn’t look like I dressed for comfort ha! He also said that he wants his tombstone to read “Stuart Weitzman: inventor of the thigh high”. It was awesome to meet him and to speak all things shoes with him. Thank god I didn’t wear the no-name black pumps!

Seersucker Off-the-Shoulder Balloon-Sleeve Bow-Back Blouse

This might be the longest named post I have ever written! I am a sucker for surprising backs, and especially if they are seerSUCKER (get it?!) I don’t think that anything quite says “summer” like seersucker. I ordered this fun blouse online a few months ago. I thought that it was so cute and perfect for summer. I also love that it combined a few of my favorite trends: off-the-shoulder and balloon-sleeves! What sold me on it though, was the surprising, fun, and feminine bow back! Everything is better with a bow on it 🙂 I paired this look with white skinny jeans, wedge sandals (a gift from my sister) and a sun-kissed glow from lying out at my cousin’s pool earlier in the day. I am in Chicago for the holiday with my family, and my sister, cousin, and I found an amazing outdoor champagne bar last night in the West Loop. Rose prosecco forever!

Let the 4th of July summery red, white, and blue looks continue!

Graduation Party: Baby Blue Cold-Shoulder Dress

I hope everyone had an amazing Memorial Day weekend! Mine was…eventful. Below is the look I wore to my sister’s graduation party on Saturday. This Lush baby blue / sky blue cold shoulder dress (trend alert!) is one of my favorite new pieces. I love how simple the dress is, and the bow details add a nice feminine touch. This dress was a perfect canvas for the brown and gold statement necklace I paired it with. I love pairing colors with neutrals, and brown goes nicely with so many different colors. I finished the look off with the new strappy block-sandals I have been wearing all week since I bought them last week. I was comfortable and could walk easily all weekend long.

Happy Summer!

Polished, Prim, & Proper: Masculine Pieces with Feminine Details

Bell sleeves, polka dots, and pearls. These are a few of my favorite things! I must have brought back a little “prim and proper” inspiration with me back from London. This post includes a few trends of the moment (bell sleeves, mules), as well as several recent purchases.

Bell sleeves are still very in these days, and I have enjoyed seeing the different variations on bell sleeves- some are longer than others, some have more flare than others, etc. I was drawn to this jacket about a month ago (exactly to the day) at ZARA in London, as I loved the sleek unfussy lines, but the feminine yet structured bell sleeves. They reminded me of little flowers. (A few friends said this jacket reminded them of Melania Trump or Kate Middleton). This jacket effortlessly makes my entire outfit more sophisticated and polished. I paired this look with my favorite black skimmer pants, classic big black sunglasses, and a Rebecca Taylor silk polka dot blouse. I love how the polka dot bows peek through the front of the jacket. I completed this look with another trend of the moment…mules! I originally wasn’t crazy about Gucci’s horsebit slides, but I love anything with pearls on it, and these ones from Steve Madden are just so comfortable and easy to wear. The pearl detail on the shoes adds a feminine touch, just as the bell sleeves soften the sharp edges of the jacket. This outfit is work ready, and perfect for a chilly spring day like today!
