This weekend I attended (another) wedding! This one was in Boulder, Colorado, and it was for a good friend of mine from Thailand. The whole week was in the 60s and sunny, except for the actual wedding day on Sunday– where temperatures suddenly dropped into the 20s and it snowed 5 inches! The bride and groom needed to change their outdoor mountain wedding venue. I used this as an opportunity to wear one of my favorite new fall coats! This coat reminds me of Robinhood because of the fur detailing at the front, the buckle closures, and the hood. I also love the forrest green color- it’s almost a neutral. I dressed the coat up with a red lip, gold jewelry, my trusty leather booties, and black leggings. (Hey, I wanted to stay warm!)
I hope this blog post publishes! I have been having a lot of issues with my blog posting and emailing my subscribers, so thank you for bearing with me! I had so much fun shooting this sophisticated all black look the other weekend when it was slightly warmer. I decided to go for bigger hair and bright blue nails (Essie “Butler Please”) to complement this all black look (how New York…). I recently swooned over the black belted vest at Zara. I paired it with Halogen black leather peep-toe booties that are SEVEN years old. I love the zipper and quilting detail on them. I felt very edgy, downtown, and vampy during this shoot! Thanks Nicky for taking these pics!!
Thank you to all of my subscribers for reading my blog! I wanted to send a little note and apologize that my latest posts for the past few weeks were not sending you an email. WordPress had a glitch, which has been restored. Please be sure to check out the posts from these weeks though, I kept up with posting regularly, for the most part! There are some holiday party and NYE looks (I know that sounds ancient).
So, the below look is really a fall look that I have been meaning to post, but I think that it transitions well into winter. This ruffle-sleeve sweater is a variation on the popular bell sleeves (trend alert!). I also love the mock turtleneck, and the soft dove gray color of this sweater. I kept this look current with raw hem denim, and possibly my favorite trend of these colder months: velvet booties (trend alert!). When I saw this Nine West pair, I had to get them…I loved the rich deep blue velvet, the button detailing (very Victorian), the round toe, and the interesting shape of the heel. I completed the look with my favorite clear plastic sunnies. I love these because they go with everything!
This is the first fall look (true fall look…) I have worn this season. It has been so warm I have still been able to get away with my summer clothing! I paired my whimsical silk eyeball blouse by Alice & Olivia with a fur vest, dark raw hem denim, and new kitten heel booties. I immediately loved the print of this blouse, and you can’t go wrong with silk blouses. This fur vest (trend alert, a few years now!) is special to me because it was a splurge on my 26th birthday, plus it’s reversible! These gray ram hem denim jeans are a closet staple, as they go with everything. The length of the denim is perfect for showing off great shoes. I purchased these booties at the FFANY event last week. I was immediately attracted to the button detail, the pointy toe, and the kitten heel (trend alert!) which is big for fall. I felt so edgy at brunch at Gemma with my friends Jeni and Abbey! Abbey even bought, and wore to brunch, the same pair of boots. Twins!
I loved styling this bohemian look with gold studded mules by Bettye. My style is usually a little more preppy than bohemian, so it was really fun to switch things up. I love the tiny stud details that shoe designer Abbey Liebman added to these mules. The black and gold goes well with so many different looks, and paired perfectly with this matching black, gold, and white dress! I like the shiny gold pailette detailing, the long black tassels, the balloon sleeves (trend alert) and the subtle star embroidery. All photography in this post is taken by the talented Alex Van!
Happy fall, which mean happy booties!
I took a red eye from JFK to London last night and arrived this morning! After meeting one of my best friends, Gracie, at Liverpool Street Station, we headed back to her place to freshen up and then we headed out and about! Gracie lives in Spitlfield, a fun neighborhood in East London. We spent the day walking everywhere. Our itinerary included exploring the Shoreditch neighborhood– which has some amazing shopping and edgy, quaint vibes. Shoreditch feels like Brooklyn a little bit, lots of cool graffiti and interesting shops. We then walked through Borough Market, which was gorgeous and aromatic, and then we checked out the Tate. The Tate rooftop has incredible views of London. It’s been about 19 years since I have been in London, so the Shard and the Gerkin are new for me! We walked back to her place passing through the garden of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and topped off our night with a proper Indian meal at Brasserie on Brick Lane. The weather in London is cool but sunny, so I wore my new favorite black knit cape which has elegant studding, gray skinny jeans, and my absolute favorite comfy Chloe booties which are perfect for walking all day! I love how dark and edgy this look is. The entire look felt fitting for London, especially the cape! I topped off my look with gold aviators. Instant, elegant chic 🙂
It finally felt like spring this weekend, which of course meant that I could whip out some of my favorite spring pieces! I love this navy mini dress from Zara. It has beautiful studding details which highlight the fluted hem. I consider navy a neutral, so I paired it with camel booties that also have a surprising coral heel. The interior lining of these booties is matching coral as well, which I think is a clever detail. I got these booties in college, and I still love them. I paired this simple downtown look with my brand new gold Ray Ban sunglasses. A pair of aviators are a classic closet staple. I am bringing them with me to London tonight!
Happy Spring! Enjoy the graffiti wall pics- I couldn’t resist. Thanks to Daniel for the photos!
The weather these past few weeks in NYC has been…crazy. One day it’s warm tee shirt weather, and the next day it’s snowing and feels like your face is going to freeze off. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be a blizzard! I bought this white chevron vintage fur coat from a street vendor on Bleecker Street. It was a birthday present for myself last fall! I love the warm furry collar, and the gorgeous chevron detailing on the back. It’s so warm and the wind can’t break through it! I paired my coat with my new absolute favorite black ankle zipper leggings (closet staple). They are so versatile and I love that they are dressy enough to wear to work, while being comfortable! My round tortoise-shell sunnies and black envelope cross-body have been staples with me lately. These booties are another star of this outfit…how amazing are they! I love the all black, with edgy mini stud detailing and double buckles. The leather is so shiny, and the heel is the perfect height for a little bit of lift, while still being practical to run around the city.
Hope everyone stays warm tomorrow! Spring is coming…
It’s springtime in February! How glorious has this entire weekend been? This coat was a bit of a trend splurge last fall, which I don’t usually recommend, but it’s just so FUN! Last year’s teddy bear coat has made it to a second season! I wore it out on Friday night, and my girlfriends called it a “Carrie Bradshaw coat”. A few boys told me “your coat is…wonderful” and “your coat looks like cotton candy”. I loved this description so much that it is the new namesake of this post. My boyfriend thinks this coat is silly (re: Man Repeller ha) but I tell him that I make the streets of NYC interesting and fun and give something to delight the people outside! I paired the coat with a favorite pair of gray stretchy skinny jeans, my black Rebecca Minkoff envelope cross-body bag, my go-to tortoise-shell sunnies, and brand new burgundy Chloe moto boots (completely obsessed with these). I love the femininity of the coat, especially when paired with the edgier and more rugged moto boots.
This post is special to me because I have been waiting to write about this look for two years since my blog’s launch! This is a fall look that I think transitions well into winter. It consists of a floppy hat, a fur vest, skinny jeans tucked into riding boots, delicate gold jewelry, and a fabulous pair of sunglasses. It is a classic, sophisticated pairing that involves neutrals, vintage pieces, and mixed textures. In keeping with New York, this look is almost all black, with a pop of gray. I bought this floppy hat and these amazing black leather vintage boots at a rummage sale almost a decade ago. Both pieces cost me less than $10, and are still in style years later. This winter break I polished up my boots, waterproofed them, and had heel caps added on. I am a big believer in taking care of your things.
The shirt, although hard to see in the pictures, is a light weight jersey shirt that has an open “dip” back from one of my favorite designers, Splendid. It is wonderful for layering and oh so cozy- worth paying retail for! The Yves Salomon vest was a 27th birthday present to myself, from myself, from Intermix. My friends Gracie and Aisha went with me when I pulled the trigger, helping me choose between a wood-y brown color and the gray I ended up with. I love this vest because it is so warm and comfy, and it also can be reversed to show a different cut! The best part is that it fits perfectly underneath my leather jacket, so the jacket can have furry flaps. A fur vest is a warm, functional, closet staple, and fur vests have been trending for a few years now.
