Right before I started my new job, I headed back to my favorite stomping grounds in NYC for a little pampering. I got my first keratin hair treatment, a deep cleansing facial, a massage, and a mani/pedi. Such a fun week! I also got to visit my favorite park, Washington Square Park, for a little stroll with my best friend, Nicky. The same crazies were still there- do you see the guy on the left with the “Free Hugs” sign? I wore raw hem (trend alert, 2 years still!) cut off jeans that I purchased for about $15 in Auckland (random, right?), a simple black top, my new green flannel-lined utility jacket (holiday gift from my sister), new gold earrings, trusty gold watch, trusty gold rings, and Ray Bans. I made the outfit pop with my leopard-tassel-pointed-toe Gianvito Rossi flats. I’ve been very into delicate gold jewelry lately. I must be watching too much “Very Cavallari”! My nail color is “Wicked” by Essie.
Wow. It’s January 26th and I am so late!!! It has been quite a month though- I signed on a new job, started said new job, have been back and forth to California twice, and signed on my new apartment. So, hopefully that helps explain the delay!
I celebrated New Year’s Eve at my sister and brother in law’s house. They threw a lovely dinner party with a few of their couple friends. It’s cliche, but I do love to wear a sequin on New Year’s. I’ve had this gray silk with metallic sequin and fringe sparkly dress sitting in my closet for the past (few!) years. This was the perfect time to wear it. I paired it with a new sparkly hatband / padded headband (trend alert!) and of course, a red lip. I kept the look simple with sexy black strappy sandals.
Happy 2020! Hope it’s been off to a great start for you!
Tie dye. Are we into it? I fully embrace this trend as it reminds me of my childhood. It’s whimsical and fun, and I am a color lover. Add in ombre? Yes please! Neon? This is really getting trendy now. I bought this mock turtleneck (another trend alert!) sweatshirt with billowy sleeves a few months ago at H&M and I have been living in it. I wore it last weekend in San Francisco paired with thick black chunky combat boots (trend alert!) from ZARA and plain black leggings. I completed the look with my favorite cat eye sunglasses for an edgier vibe.
My friend Gwen and I popped into Alice & Olivia on Fillmore Street, and I found almost an identical sweater to the one I was wearing. I posted a pic…hilarious!
Happy New Year!
It’s been a while since I have been on here! In October and November I was in Australia (for a friend’s wedding) and then I went to New Zealand on the TRIP OF A LIFETIME! I am finally back, in Chicago, and getting back into a routine. A few Saturdays ago I attended the Nutcracker with my mom, sister, and niece (girl’s day!). We all decided to dress up. I have had this beautiful classic red bow coat for a few years, and I think that wearing it to The Nutcracker is absolutely perfect. I paired my coat with equally classic T-strap patent leather heels, and my new favorite accessory- a sparkly hatband (trend alert!) I did feel like a princess.
Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!
A ravishing red dress with ostrich feathers was only appropriate for a castle wedding at Oheka Castle on Long Island. This castle was stunning, and absolutely a dream come true as I have always wanted to visit. I truly felt like I was living in a fairytale with my friend Jeni. This dress is by French designer Paule Ka, and the feathery (ostrich feather) sleeves are removable via a snap! I am not completely into the cold shoulder trend anymore, but this one is just so whimsical. I got so many complements on this dress (the feathers!) at the wedding…at least 6 people! I completed the look with gold accessories. I also got my hair cut and styled before this wedding. I had a blast at this spectacular wedding!
Last weekend was one for the BOOKS! Saturday was spent at my friend Jeni’s family ranch BBQ party in the sleepy town of Dime Box, Texas (population 201) and Sunday was spent at a castle wedding in Long Island, New York.
To start with the ranch party! This “BBQ” included a concert by legendary Americana singer, Robert Earl Keen. There also were four Texas Trick Riders, who did wild stunts (hanging off of the side of a horse while it galloped, etc.) The town’s mayor, sheriff, and Senator John Cornyn were in attendance. For the event, I knew I wanted to be appropriately dressed for the occasion. I chose a favorite Calypso paisley silk dress, and paired it with my trusty cowboy boots. I have had them since high school– I got them at a rummage sale! I actually had to wear these cowboy boots at the airport because they wouldn’t fit in my luggage! I love that the paisley print is in keeping with the country theme, and the orange, black, and pink hues are so interesting! The tassel keyhole tie at the front is a nice detail, too. I completed the look with delicate gold jewelry, and bright red lips (hey, it’s Texas!)
Summer don’t leave us! This weekend was absolutely perfect weather- sunshine and in the low 70s! It was my niece’s 4th birthday, which meant I (obviously) would wear a pretty dress for her. I have always been into eyelet lace, but over the past few summers (starting in 2017) I have been really into embroidered eyelet lace. Parker makes a gorgeous variety of dresses, and that little bit of extra detail is so fun! I also like the tiered flutter sleeves on this one- so feminine! With Labor Day just around the corner, I only have a few more days to wear this white dress with navy embroidery. I paired it with my favorite trusty espadrilles (love that the two navies match), and a circular wicker bag from this season (trend alert!) I kept my accessories gold and simple: Ray Ban aviators and my everyday gold watch. Is there a more summery look than this?!
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
I have been living in this Miguelina maxi dress all summer! I love the blue and white colors, the polka dot pattern, the intricate lace, and the subtle (and whimsical) dragonfly embroidery. It’s cotton which makes it very comfortable, and it is easy to dress up or down with the accessories. I recently packed this dress for a trip to Montana, and it was perfect for Saturday night. It is sold out at Net-A-Porter but is still available at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman!
My cousin Sarah got married last Saturday in the most beautiful vineyard wedding in Traverse City, Michigan! For the occasion, I knew that I would need to be careful about my footwear choice as there was grass. I decided to go with one of my favorite seven year old (!) pleated maxi dresses that I bought in Thailand. I don’t wear maxi dresses too often, but I do enjoy them. I like the summery bright colorblock on this one! Also, it allowed me to wear flat gold sandals…perfect for grass and allowed me to happily dance the night away! I accessorized with gold earrings, my gold watch, my quilted Chanel bag with gold hardware, and my trusty heart sunglasses. I am wishing it was last weekend!
I have had the best Memorial Day Weekend being back in NYC and catching up with my core group of friends there. Additionally, I had a Danish and German friend who both were in town, which is what prompted my trip. I recently purchased these Ann Taylor Loft polka dot culottes, and I was ecstatic when I found them because I had been looking for a pair just like this… I am a polka dot lover! I also like the length of these pants and the elastic waist (super comfortable and flattering). I paired them with a cloth-button cold-shoulder blouse (trend alert!), Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals (trend alert!), my trusty heart sunglasses (trend alert!), and a dream item I took out for the first time…my classic Chanel jumbo black caviar-leather gold-hardware flapbag! A classic look to kick off summer in the city 🙂
