Nautical Vertical Stripes

Yesterday was my close friend Jeni’s birthday party, and we celebrated by going out on her boat in Oyster Bay! (It’s a tough life, I know). It was the most beautiful day yesterday, perfect for a little sail. I wore one of my favorite new dresses that I plan to wear all summer- an off-the-shoulder (trend alert) and ruffled top (trend alert) vertical striped dress. I love stripes, and they are intrinsically nautical, but I have recently been very into vertical stripes. I paired the dress with my favorite Panama hat and classic gold aviator sunglasses, a black string bikini, and my favorite new gold star lace-up sandals. I love this entire outfit- feminine and on-trend, but minimalist. Hope everyone had an awesome weekend! I might be re-wearing this dress…it’s 4th of July acceptable!

Ball Drop Earrings and Off-The-Shoulder Jumpsuit

I never thought I would start a blog post with “Ball Drop”, but here it is! Last night I caved in for the latest statement earring trend that I initially was not on board with but now am…the ball drop earrings! Also known as “orb” and “globe” earrings (trend alert). I bought this sunny yellow pair from a NYC street vendor but I have linked a few similar versions below. I know that J. Crew, Club Monaco, Intermix, and BaubleBar all carry them. They were the perfect summer touch to this amazing Theory jumpsuit (trend alert) I have been waiting to wear. I first saw this jumpsuit last February at Bloomingdales, and was immediately attracted to the off-the-shoulder / strapless (trend alert) top, and culotte / wide leg bottom (trend alert). Also, jumpsuits have been on the steady incline for the past few years and I am happy to support this movement. I finished off the look with my favorite nude strappy sandals. I have gotten so much wear out of these, and they go with everything!

Red Beaded Sheath Dress

On Thursday night I attended the New York AIPAC gala at Terminal 5. AIPAC is an organization committed to strengthening, protecting, and promoting the US-Israel relationship. I couldn’t decide what to wear to the event, and it was also the same day as the Alice & Olivia Sample Sale, where I found this fabulous red beaded / studded dress! Sample sales are always funny, because you change in a fitting room with 20 other strangers and everyone gives their opinion. I was deciding between this dress and a whimsical lipstick-mascara printed dress, and the vote was unanimously 5 for 5 for this dress. I love the intricate cutout patterns, and the delicate beading. I can wear it in the summer, and also in the winter to holiday parties. It is very sophisticated! I paired this dress with one of my tallest pairs of patent leather peep toe stilettos. It was so good to see so many of my Poland friends at this event (almost been a year since that trip)! Later in the night I went to Ludlow House for its 1 year anniversary, and Questlove performed…which is a coincidence because exactly one year ago I attended a different gala with my friends Nic, Helene, and Steve, wearing an Alice and Olivia dress, with Questlove performing. June 15th must be a special day. Deja Vu!

Hosting Hélène’s Bridal Shower

I am so happy that my blog is back up and running after being hacked! This is why this post is so late. Now that the malware issue is resolved, it’s time to look at pretty friends and pink cakes 🙂

The Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, after my sister’s graduation festivities, I hosted a bridal shower for my dear friend Hélène in my boyfriend’s courtyard (Garden Party!) I landed back in New York early Sunday afternoon, so it took quite a bit of preparation to pull off, and I am really pleased with how everything turned out. I ordered the pink cake from Amy’s Bread & Cake (right down the street from me on Bleecker), and I had a lot of fun emailing with the baker about the vision for it. I picked up some feminine crystal dish ware and champagne glasses. The drink of the evening was champagne with raspberries. The highlight of the party decor was the rose gold “love” balloon. The ivy backdrop made it the perfect spot! As host, I wanted to wear something light and pretty, so I chose this feminine Yumi Kim spaghetti strap dress. I usually don’t like wearing bold prints, but the bright fucshia and navy were so unexpected and fun. I paired it with a simple delicate black stone necklace, and the block-heeled sandals I have been wearing non-stop since I bought them. They are also great because they are easy to run around in…very important when you are on constant refill-guest’s-drink mode!
