I have had some amazing beach days this summer. Starting in the Hamptons, followed by St. Croix, and now Delaware! A few weeks ago I traveled to Bethany Beach with my friend, Jill. It was my first time in Delaware, and I am a big fan. We literally spent three days at the beach, sitting under umbrellas and relaxing. I knew that I wanted to wear something easy and comfortable…and beachy. Nothing says the beach quite like nautical stripes! I picked this brown and white striped jersey dress up a few years ago in Hong Kong at an outdoor market, and I have gotten so much wear out of it! To complete my nautical, summery look, I paired my dress with my favorite gold rope sandals. I bought these at Target a few years ago, as well, and I have gotten so much use out of them. Dolce Vita and J. Crew make very similar versions. I love the gold tip on the top of the shoe, which was trendy a few years ago but is still a nice touch. I polished off the look with a new favorite pair of bubblegum pink sunglasses. Brown and pink go surprisingly well together, and what I loved about these sunglasses is the subtle gold rim on the inside, which nicely picks up the gold in the sandal.
After a few unseasonably warm 70 degree days, NYC is back to being spring and chilly. This leather jacket is probably the nicest item of clothing I own (not including shoes!) I bought it last fall from Maje- one of my favorite designers of all time. I was attracted to the motorcycle style, the gorgeous and unique shoulder stitching detail, and the soft lamb leather. However, it took two separate trips to the Bleecker Street store before I bit the bullet. I am so glad that I did, it is an investment piece and a closet staple, and I have already gotten so much wear from it. Leather jackets are functional, too- great for fall and spring transitional weather. They are also great for traveling and flying, and I always get complements on it when I wear it. I paired this jacket with a black scarf, tortoiseshell sunnies I bought off the street last weekend, my favorite metallic bucket bag (another favorite designer piece), white skinny jeans, and edgy Rebecca Minkoff calf hair wedge booties that I treated myself to for my 27th birthday. When I was in college, skinny jeans were just becoming super trendy. It’s fun to watch fashion shift, as skinny jeans are still trendy but now at a higher ankle length than a few years ago. Enjoy the magnolia blossoms in Central Park from our shoot.
Overalls. Dungarees. Most of us wore them as kids. I know that I used to love wearing them to play in ball pit birthday parties! I hadn’t worn them in about 15 years though, and it felt great to be back in them. This pair is a “grown up” pair- short shorts with distressed denim (more for fashion than function). I paired my overalls with a black tank, and a favorite pair of beaded espadrille flats I bought at the end of last summer. The colorful beading and zebra print are so fun! I also paired this look with a favorite pair of retro round tortoise-shell sunglasses, and a new simple choker (trend alert!) that I bought from a street vendor. I love the gold dangly from the middle of the choker, it adds an unexpected detail. Even though it’s September, it has still been pretty warm and humid in NYC. I have been feeling very “downtown” and edgy lately!
I’ve teamed up with StyleWe to create a Fall Wish List. Below are a few of my top picks. I love the bright red mini dress, and the ruffles add a delicate and feminine detail. The camel coat is so simple, sophisticated and elegant. I’ve also been on the hunt for a sleeveless blazer. I like the longer length of this one, and it has a menswear, masculine edge to it. Tom Naples Photography and I are at it again. We shot this look a few weeks ago on a beautiful warm fall day in the Lower East Side. We were particularly inspired by street graffiti and the Williamsburg Bridge. This post has a few different key fashion elements: this Maje leather jacket- which is a closet staple and an investment piece which is perfect for fall, this burgundy (trend alert!) pleated maxi dress- which is a great fall transition piece, this tie-string choker (trend alert!) which I have been wearing almost every day, my trusty ear jackets and ankle strap flats. This maxi dress is perfect for summer to fall, as it’s lightweight but long, can be layered easily, and the burgundy color is my favorite fall shade. I felt pretty rocker-chic and edgy between the leather jacket and the choker. It was Tom’s idea to head to the Williamsburg Bridge (I had never been) and it was such a blast. He has such an amazing eye! Enjoy the pics, and be sure to shop the links below.
This weekend was the engagement party of two of my close friends, Katherine and Nick! They had an amazing rooftop party in Jersey City. I knew that I wanted to wear a Little Black Dress (LBD), as it’s always a safe classic. I picked this lace, one-shouldered one up a few months ago at Intermix- possibly my favorite shop. I paired it with a fun pair of ostrich feather Kate Spade sandals, as the bride and I always loved Kate Spade in college. I like the shade of blue, it really pops. Plus, these shoes were a conversation starter all night- a great way to make new friends. I kept my jewelry simple with this trusty pair of ear jackets. I styled my hair in a side swept part- I lightened the color today, if it looks lighter.
It’s officially summer! I hope everyone had as fun of a Memorial Day weekend as I had. I love Memorial Day weekend, besides the 3 day weekend, the weather is usually beautiful, there is so much family and grilling, and it is the start of sundress season! I wore the below outfit to my sister and brother in law’s BBQ in Chicago. I had a straw hat I was dying to pair it with, but their deck is pretty windy. The blue, white, and pink design of the dress is pretty patriotic, and I love how the dress is flowy and swings. I am usually not the hugest fan of spaghetti straps, but I feel like they go nicely with this design. I paired the dress with classic gold rim aviators. I pulled out one of my favorite pairs of pewter flats which have a front knot and a pointed toe. I love a good bow, but the knot is so elegant and a little bit more masculine. If I throw a black sweater or jean jacket over this dress, I could easily wear it to work.
