Year in Review

2015 has been a very eventful year. I launched my blog last January, and I have been much happier ever since. This blog has been a special creative outlet for me, and it’s hard to believe that it’s been live for nearly a year! It feels like yesterday that I was only contemplating doing it, and all of the insecurities that accompanied the thought of launching it. I remember meeting with graphic designers and learning all about the business of blogging…it was a daunting task and I am so excited that now I have the “groove” of blogging, and a cadence I am comfortable with for posting. Styling is incredibly fun for me, and I adore using the West Village as my backdrop for so many posts. Over the months, w4street has somewhat expanded into a travel blog, as well, with 2015 international trips taking me to Aruba, Nicaragua, Panama, Jordan, Greece, and Turkey.

Below are the top posts of 2015. It is fun to see the seasons transition! I can’t wait to continue creating in 2016. Thanks for reading, and thanks to everyone who has supported me. Special thanks to my friends who have taken my pictures, applied my makeup, and done my hair in ways I could only dream about. It’s been so much fun working together!

Onwards…

Sequin Pants

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner, and instead of the little sequin dress, this year I have been dreaming about some sleek sequin pants! The holiday season’s latest trend seems to hit right above the ankle, perfect for showcasing your favorite pump or sandal. I would select a pair in silver, gold, emerald or black for the holidays. Added benefit: Who doesn’t love a little extra warmth and comfort?

Which is your favorite pair?

Holiday Shoe Shopping

The holidays are right around the corner, and below are some of my favorite picks for last minute gifts! (Gifts for yourself count, too!) I selected five favorites, in five different styles, from five different mainstream brands.

Which ones are your favorites?

Company Holiday Party

Last Thursday was my new company’s holiday party, and it was spectacular. The venue was called Three Sixty in Tribeca, and it had the most amazing views of the World Trade Center. There were hundreds of candles lighting the window sills, and a hallway of silver balloons led into the main dancing area. Walking through the balloons you felt like you were in a “tinsel” forrest, it was very cool. Also, the food (and alcohol) were incredible. Girls started leaving the office around 330pm to get their hair blown out and manicures. As I am new to tech and the company, I wasn’t sure how fancy the party would be or what was appropriate. Our office is pretty casual, so most of the guys showed up in their suits (adorable). I knew I wanted to wear something holiday-ish, and I narrowed it down to a red lace dress and this sequin Parker dress. I have recently fallen in love with Parker- they make the most incredible sequin dresses. I wasn’t sure if sequins would be too much, but because the dress is high cut and has sleeves, and the sequins are not “cheap” looking, I decided that the dress was sophisticated enough to wear around colleagues. I LOVE the sequin beading and intricate details on this dress. I don’t own many sequin dresses that are this special. I did my own hair and makeup, and I got my nails done (Essie’s “Dive Bar”- in love) immediately before the party.

A quick note about caring for a delicately beaded / sequin dress- make sure you keep it covered in a garment bag or protected so that other clothes in your closet don’t attack it!

Happy Holidays!!!

LBD for the Holidays

I know I have posted before about the Little Black Dress (LBD), but because it is a closet staple and can be worn in many different contexts, I am posting about another special LBD. Last Friday I attended the St. Jude Winter Gala at the Bowery Hotel with a bunch of friends. This benefit has turned into somewhat of a tradition for me, and this is my third year going. Attendees wear anything from short sequined dresses and cocktail attire to long sweeping ballgowns. It is such a fabulous people-watching event. I found this black silky, swingy dress at a boutique in Boston when I was in college (which is about 5 years ago give or take!) I have already worn it to winter weddings, summer parties, and now this gala. I have gotten so much wear out of it because it is black, simple, and elegant. In the winter I throw on a little fur bolero with it. I was drawn to it because the thick halter straps are very vogue-esque. It also is a very swingy party dress for dancing! I paired this dress with my new hot pink rockstuds! Another great benefit of the LBD is that accessories can take center stage.

I wore my hair in a simple bun and did sophisticated, clean makeup with a red lip. I thought that this combination really allowed the dress and shoes to stand out, and wearing my hair up allowed the fun halter strap to bask in all of its glory. Tomorrow is my new company’s holiday party, so there will be another holiday party look coming soon!

Blanket Scarf for Central Park

November was an incredibly exciting month for me. I quit my job, started a new one, and had an unbelievable spontaneous trip to Turkey in between the two. (Not to mention Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday!) The below photos were taken the Sunday back from all of the excitement and the day before my first day at my new tech startup job. I had a lovely day out and about enjoying New York. One of my best friends, Danielle, got me this comfy and cozy blanket scarf (fall trend alert!) which I paired with a black shirt, dark denim cropped skinny jeans, leather ankle booties, a big tote, and mirrored aviators. This scarf is super comfy, and I brought it to Turkey with me because it doubled as a blanket on my flight! I also ironically brought this bag- it is the perfect size for an airplane carry-on. I stuffed in lots of magazines and all of the essentials. Grays and browns and neutrals are my favorite for fall. I love how chic and sophisticated this look is. This scarf has already been a fall staple for me.

How does it still feel like fall in December?! It was 55 degrees in NYC today.
