Last night I attended the Bleecker Street opening party of Kate Spade New York. The cute boutique carries Kate’s famous purses, wallets, and various accessories. It’s about time Kate Spade opened a store on the iconic West Village shopping street! I think that it is going to be very successful in this location. This particular boutique collaborated with the (also New York-famous) Magnolia Bakery, which is conveniently across the street. I especially enjoyed her whimsical cupcake and cake themed accessories. However, on my wish list for this winter are the below ear muffs with a black satin bow on top. (How Blair Waldorf are these? / Who knew that ear muffs could look so good!) The whole boutique is filled with pink, glitter, bows, and all things feminine- one of the many reasons why I love Kate Spade’s designs. She also makes some killer shoes, and hopefully these will be sold in the boutique soon.
One of my favorite purchases for this fall are these sparkly Carvela Kurt Geiger glitter flats. I love the classic slip-on shape and the heel adds just a little bit of height. The glitter is, of course, my favorite part. These shoes are so fun! The midnight black color can spice up any work dress, and they transition well from day to night. I travel a lot for work, so these are easy to slip into once I get to client site. I am sad to be saying goodbye to sandals that show off summer pedicures, but these puppies make the transition to fall easier.
This weekend I swapped out all of my summer clothes and shoes in favor of my fall wardrobe. I was sad to say goodbye to my bright sundresses and sandals (summer is my favorite season to dress for!) but booties, capes, and cozy sweaters are making things a little bit easier. One piece that I have been meaning to wear all summer, which is a great transition piece into fall, is a black jumpsuit (romper). Black jumpsuits are a closet staple, as they transition easily between seasons and they can also be dressed up or down and used as a “canvas” for fun accessories.
For this West Village shoot, I wanted my hair and makeup to be as equally edgy as my romper and new yellow Jimmy Choo platform sandals. My close friend Alex did a smokey eye, nude lip, and an edgy braided and coiffed updo. Per usual, please contact me if you would like to book her for your next event. She is the queen.
This Thursday I attended the Romeo Hunte Spring Summer 2016 Presentation entitled “The Focus”. The presentation was held at the private residences of the W Downtown. Although it started nearly an hour late, it was so much fun to people watch as guests arrived. Everyone was beautiful. Everyone (most people) were dressed outrageously. I attended Romeo’s fall presentation, and it was so much fun to see the evolution of his designs for spring and summer. He used a lot of bright colors, I particularly loved the yellows. He also used rich fabrics with different textures. When I first saw the models, it was so cool- many of them had black geisha-style wigs and makeup. They were standing perfectly still and almost appeared to be statues. One model needed to be taken down at one point because she almost fainted. (These models are under a lot of pressure). My favorite piece in this collection is the white blazer-dress in the second picture from the top.
I met a great photographer from Getty, and he and I went to town. He told me that everyone at fashion week loves having their picture taken, which is pretty funny (and expected). My favorite quote of his was, “Fashion Week is great, you get to look at bizarre stuff and drink lots of free alcohol”.
Happy Labor Day! I recently picked up this marigold and gold studded Trina Turk “Amelie” halter dress and I love it. It has clean lines, and the gold studding reminds me of fish skills, a pattern that I find particularly beautiful in beading work. I also like the interesting high-cut of the halter. The dress is not quite yellow, and it is not orange either. It really is a marigold, which is perfect for Labor Day as we transition into fall. Although I could have paired this dress with black shoes (or any more understated shoe), I loved the bright blue of these peep toe platforms, and the suede material was an interesting texture contrast with the silk and studded dress. Yes, these shoes are hard to walk in. They are so fun though! I love how the peep toe on them is barely-there. All hair and makeup is done by my friend Alex. Please reach out if you want to book her, she is amazing at all things beauty and can work with different hair types.
This week marks the start of NY Fashion Week, and I have a few events I am attending that I am pretty excited about. Stay tuned!
The ONLY reason I can tolerate summer coming to an end is the start of fall fashion. Fall, especially the start of fall, is super fun to dress for. Below are some of my favorite fall wish list items, including a gray felt hat, a Maje leather motorcycle jacket (I actually splurged on this one and I think a leather jacket is a closet staple!), a warm cape (my favorite to spice up any outfit), lace up flats (arguably fall’s hottest trend), and a pair of classic riding boots with an exposed red zipper at the back that I bought online last night (I have been crushing on this style of boot since I was a senior in college)!
All links to shop my picks are at the bottom of this post. Happy almost fall!
