Whimsical Shift Dress

In the summertime, I love to add a little flair to my work ready wardrobe by wearing fun shift dresses. Green is one of my favorite colors, and when I spotted this parrot-print dress at Ann Taylor LOFT I couldn’t resist. The parrot pattern was such a fun, unexpected and whimsical detail. I was drawn to the pattern being subtle without being overbearing or overtly obvious. Plus, I clearly love birds on my clothes (re: Black Swan post). Shift dresses are easy to dress up from day to night (think desk to drinks) and they are great for showing off your favorite pair of shoes. In this look, I wore my patent leather grosgrain lace-up peep toe booties (mouthful!) and a bright statement necklace. At work, I like to wear my hair in a bun. A good shift dress is a closet staple because it can be easily dressed up or down by adjusting the accessories. A boxier shift dress is also comfortable to wear on flights, which comes in handy with my weekly consultant travel.
