With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s not too early to start thinking about that perfect Little Red Dress (LRD)! Red is such a beautiful, passionate, lively color, and I think that (just like with red lipstick) it’s all about finding the right shade for you. Red is strong, bold, and confident, which is often why we see women politicians favor it. Similarly, studies have shown that men gave better tips to women waitresses wearing red than those not wearing red…

Arguably, the LRD is almost as much of a closet staple as the LBD. Red will never go out of style. Below are three red dresses that I am crushing on, from fanciest to (less) fancy. All three have pretty clean lines and would look amazing accessorized with some gold jewelry.

Leopard Skinny Jeans

In the frigid winter in New York City, sometimes it is just not realistic to wear a dress or skirt out at night that will expose your bare legs. Sometimes, ladies, we have to wear pants when we go out.

Last Friday night one of my best friends and I decided to head over to the Top of the Standard (The Boom Boom Room), notorious for enforcing strict dress codes. Also notorious for the Solange-Jay Z elevator incident. I decided to wear my new (fabulous!) 7 For All Mankind leopard skinny jeans, paired with a black pleated flowy blouse, a statement necklace, and my favorite Kate Spade nude pumps. I am a sucker for leopard print, and when I tried these jeans on it was sort of a joke. As it turns out, they are super comfortable, versatile (dress them up dress them down) and they are a statement piece in their own right. Every time I wear these jeans out, I get a lot of complements on them. Surprisingly, they elongate your legs, too, especially when paired with a great pair of stilettos.

Nothing says glamour the way feathers do. Feathers are fun, fearless and fabulous! I think that a solid feather dress, skirt or blouse can really spice up your wardrobe. I know that I am in the market for a new feather piece to dress up my weekend look! I have my eye on several ostrich feather pieces below. I can’t quite decide if I prefer investing in a black or creme piece!

All of these options below would look amazing with a pair of sky high strappy sandals.

RIP, Piperlime

This has been a brutal month for some retailers. First, C. Wonder announced it was closing. Four days ago, Piperlime announced the same. Both of these retailers had amazing merchandise, in my opinion. Piperlime actually has a lone brick and mortar store right here in SoHo. It is definitely on my “SoHo Treasures” list, and I will be very sad to see it go. In the next few weeks leading to its closing, there are sure to be some great sales. Today, there was 25% off all full priced items. I am sure the sales will keep coming, and getting better. Below are a few of my favorite picks:

Don’t forget, you can use your GAP, Old Navy, and Banana Republic giftcards when shopping at Piperlime!

3 Little Black Dresses

I hope that everyone is staying warm! It is definitely snowing hard in Manhattan. I figured that I would share three of my favorite Little Black Dresses (who doesn’t love another LBD) on this snowy Monday in order to help warm all of our hearts! All three of these dresses can be worn in different seasons, and I’ve selected dresses that are at different price points. The great thing about the LBD is that you can pair it with so many different accessories, it’s classic and you are sure to get a lot of wear from it.

The snow falling outside is romantic. LBDs are romantic. They belong together!

Which LBD is your favorite?

The Sweater Dress

Dressing in the winter for work can become a bit mundane. However, the sweater dress is here to save you. The sweater dress is one of my favorite alternatives to pencil skirts with tights or slacks in the winter. It is chic, warm and comfortable! In this look I paired it with one of my favorite pairs of patent leather T-straps, and a light blue statement necklace. (Blue on blue is one of my favorite color combinations). After work, you can slip into a pair of booties and you’re ready for happy hour!

Nude Pumps

Nude pumps are a closet must-have for every professional woman. They go with absolutely everything. Plus, they elongate your legs in a way that black pumps only wish they could! Below is one of my favorite Friday office looks. The pumps are by Eurosoft and I love them because they have cushioning and are not too high, which is great for a long day at work.

Welcome to West 4th Street!

Thanks so much for visiting my new style, beauty and professional venture, West 4th Street. This site is something I have wanted to do for the past few years, and I am so excited that it’s live! This blog is a creative (and fun!) outlet for me. I am a full time management consultant, but I love expressing myself through fashion, which is sometimes challenging in a professional, male-dominant environment. I am incredibly inspired by New York City, particularly the eccentric and charming personality of the West Village- this blog’s namesake. Going forward, I plan to focus on work-wear and navigating “professional fashion” in the corporate office, in addition to off-the-clock weekend and party wear (I am a dress and shoe girl at heart…who isn’t!) I am a self-described risk taker, and I hope that this blog will energize, motivate and inspire you to push the limits.
